Hamilton Ruins

Hamilton, Nevada is a ghost town in the White Pine Mountains in White Pine County.
Once the County Seat of White Pine County it had its day between 1868 and 1869 with the discovery of Silver nearby.
The decline started shortly after 1869, the County Seat changed to nearby Ely in 1887, but the final nail in the coffin came in 1931 when the Post Office closed its doors forever.
The only thing left in the town are ruins like these, (and yesterday's post) a cemetery and old mining gear scattered on the landscape (seen in previous posts).

Eric - thanks for your note today. I really enjoy these old ghost towns. The one I know the best is Rhyolite NV, near Beatty and Death Valley NP. It's remarkable not only for its extensive ruins but for bizarre art installations.

Let me know when your plans firm up for passing through STL. However, I'll be in Chicago on business Aug. 21-22. On Sept. 3 my wife and I are taking off for Nepal and Tibet. Back (ant totally jet lagged) on Sept. 22.

Back in 1993, me & a friend of mine went Ely on our way to Idaho, so we were close to Hamilton & the scene in your photo. I love the sky in this shot. I wish we'd known about the place then, we could have stopped to see some ghosts.

Thanks for adding me to your followers list & I've added you to mine. I love it out west & will be back to see your photos!

Thanks again
