Highway 50

I put over 500 miles on my car yesterday... That is the most so far in one day of work. I am sure I will put more on over time but today was the first +500 mile day and it was long.

The drive was not boring tho. Take this shot for instance...
This was taken going east on Highway 50 in Northern Nevada. Highway 50 has been dubbed (and I can concur) "America's Loneliest Highway".
Only 70 miles of my 500 mile drive was on Highway 50. I saw only 3 cars in that distance.

The entire highway runs from Delta, Utah to Lake Tahoe in California.

Wow, 500 miles *is* a lot! This photo is absolutely gorgeous. It's the European dream!

We have driven the length of Hiway 50 many times and seen something new and interesting every time. Even the loneliest of places has photo opportunity to offer. This great photo brings back the real feelings of being on this road.

This is a perfect complement to your comment about a long day...a dramatic representation as to how you must have felt. Love the B&W.

Gives new meaning to "end of the road."

That skyline goe on forever. Very cinematic.

If the roads are mostly flat and straight like this I guess 500 miles is not TOO bad - I don;t drive now but in the UK with very different roads more than 250-300 is excessive. I did once do 540 one day but it was something of an emergency mercy dash.

Eric - sorry I've been getting by so infrequently. This is a classic Western shot, the desert, the emptiness and the road vanishing into infinity. We go to Death Valley once in a while for a getaway and the picture reminds me of some of the roads around there, like in the northern part of the national park or between Parumph and Death Valley Junction. Really good work and perfectly exposed.

Hey Eric, nice work here. As Bob C said, classic. I've driven all of Hwy 50 a couple of times and it earns the "lonliest" moniker tho Hwy 6 west out of Ely gives 50 a run for it's lonely money. One thing I remember distinctly about both drives is that there always seems to be mountains in the distance all around but you never get to them! Did you feel that?
